Lehman Brothers Government/Corporate Bond Index is a subset of what was initially called the Lehman Brothers Aggregate Bond Index, which is currently known as the Bloomberg Barclays US Aggregate Bond Index. The other subgroups of that index are the Mortgage-Backed Securities Index and Asset-Backed Securities Index. The Bloomberg Barclays US Aggregate Bond Index (ticker: LBUSTRUU), formerly known as the Lehman Aggregate Bond Index and the Barclays US Aggregate Index, was created in 1986 with backdated history going back to 1976. The index has been maintained by Bloomberg L.P. since August 24th 2016. The left column shows the return of the Barclays U.S. Aggregate Bond Index (which was known as the Lehman U.S. Aggregate Bond Index prior to Lehman Brothers’ collapse). The index measures the performance of investment-grade bonds in the United States. The Bloomberg Barclays US Aggregate Bond Index is a broad-based flagship benchmark that measures the investment grade, US dollar-denominated, fixed-rate taxable bond market. The index includes Treasuries, government-related and corporate securities, MBS (agency fixed-rate and hybrid ARM pass-throughs), ABS and CMBS (agency and non-agency). The broad-based bond benchmark index was formerly known as the Barclays Capital Aggregate Bond Index, or BarCap Aggregate, and before that, it was known as the Lehman Brothers Aggregate Bond Index.
